The CONFERENCE HOTEL for 2017 is full.
Although we reserved more rooms for this conference than ever before, as of Thursday, March 9, they were all booked. Some nights may re-open, if someone's emergency causes another cancellation, but at this point, all of the conference-rate rooms are full. Because there are multiple other events happening at the same time as our conference, and because so few attendees had pre-registered at that time, so that we were unable to prove the block would fill, the hotel could not be convinced to drop the rates on more rooms.
We attempted to negotiate an "overflow" block of reserved rooms at nearby hotels, but those hotels were unable to commit to a reserved block, for the same reasons that the conference hotel would not.
WSSA annually presents awards to three junior faculty members at United States universities, recognizing their cutting edge research and their substantial contributions to the social sciences, and the strong promise of future such contributions. Honorees are chosen by the Immediate Past-President of the WSSA, the President, and the President-Elect.
In a many-months-long collaboration, WSSA's top executives worked with Webmaster Matt Molenar to revise and update WSSA's website. That website will go live September 28, 2016.
Each year WSSA officers choose three outstanding scholars, junior faculty members at United States universities who have been active in their disciplines for less than six years, whose cutting edge research and substantial contributions to the social sciences, and strong promise of future such contributions, make them worthy of the designation "Outstanding New Scholar". For details on this year's awardees, see full article text. (Beginning with the 2017 awards, the designation will be "Outstanding Emerging Scholar")
