Note To Section Coordinators

Please note that the Section Coordinators must accept or reject all papers submitted by that deadline no later than February 6, 2022.  If you do not meet this deadline, we will accept submissions on your behalf.

  • January 15, 2023, Final Date for submission of papers.
  • February 6, 2023, Section Coordinators final date for Accept/Reject submissions to their section.
  • February 20, 2023 Final date for Section Coordinators to submit first draft of their sections to the Program Coordinator.
  • February 27, 2023 Program Coordinator returns first draft of program to section coordinators with day and time of panels.
  • March 6, 2023 Section Coordinators submit final edits to conference program. It is important that Section Coordinators verify day and time of panels with the members of their sections.
  • March 13, 2023 Final program is published to Section Coordinators (the only edits that occur after this day are: deletions from the program, and spelling errors).  This program will be published on the WSSA Web Site.

March 27, 2023 An addendum will be submitted to the WSSA Web Site.  At this point all other changed to the online  Program will be put on hold.

Complaints that you can solve.

The biggest two complaints that we receive is that:

  1. section coordinator has neither accepted nor rejected my paper and/or
  2. the section coordinator has not told me the time or day of my presentation. Please respond to the members of your section so that we do not have to.

Another complaint that we get is that individuals need to make their travel plans and reservations for the hotel but have not heard from the section coordinators. This is why we are publishing the program as early as is reasonably to be expected. The deadlines we have above are as absolute as we can make them. We fully understand you're volunteers and we really appreciate all of your efforts. Without you we could not make this conference run; however, we need you to respond as quickly as possible to members of your sections and to the program coordinator.

Here's to a successful conference.

Interested in Affiliating or Associating?

Both Affiliates and Associates hold their meetings under the umbrella of the WSSA, and their members are treated as WSSA members as well as members of their own groups.  Affiliate groups have their own journal, business operations, and organizational structure. Associate groups have their own business operations and organizational structure. Current Affiliate groups are the Association for Borderlands Studies (ABS), Association for Latin American, Chicano, Latinx & Iberian Studies (ALACLIS)Association for Slavic, East European, & Eurasian Studies (ASEEES), and the Union for Radical Political Economics (URPE). Current Associate group is the Association for Institutional Thought (AFIT). If your group is interested in affiliating with the WSSA, please let us know. You may contact:

If your section did not previously meet the definition of an affiliate or associate group, but has now met those definitions, please contact the Communications Director, Kate Herke to have your description changed in the list below.

Who Must Register?

Everyone who will attend the conference must register, including all presenters. See our "Registration" page for instructions on how to register, information about refunds, and the links to the on-line registration form.

A "PAPER" is one paper that goes to the Section that the user chooses. This can have multiple authors, but is only a single paper.

A “PANEL” is a group of papers with a similar theme that have been organized, by the person submitting, to make a unified session. They must already have all of the papers and authors' information available.

A "ROUNDTABLE” is an open session on a specified topic, with NO PAPERS, just the information about the people meeting to discuss. Information about all discussants must be included in the submission, along with a description of the topic.

A "WORKSHOP/TUTORIAL/PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT EVENT" is a teaching or professional development event, lecture or demonstration that YOU will create and manage.

African/African-American Studies

This section adds to a commitment of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary academic excellence by highlighting Contemporary theories and research of African and African Americans. Scholarly discussions are presented on academic, social, economic, and historical issues that impact the African and African American experience in the United States. We accept contributions from any discipline that facilitates intellectual discussion on the history, culture, religion, politics, economics, arts, sociology, health, and the Diaspora of peoples of African descent as developed from experiences in both the old and new worlds.
